MCTXSheriff Joins in the Fight against Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer Awareness Month began on October 1st and runs through October 31st. Sheriff Rand Henderson and members of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will help support breast cancer survivors and the fighters of the disease by wearing pink badges during the month of October. These “pink badges” were paid for personally by the individual deputy who wears the badge for a family member or friend, who has battled cancer.

By doing this, not only can we show our support, but we can make a donation in hopes of helping someone in need. A portion of the proceeds from the badges will be donated to The Rose, a foundation whose mission is to reduce deaths from breast cancer by providing access to screening, diagnostics and treatment services to any woman regardless of her ability to pay.

To some of our employees it is personal, cancer has attacked them, a sister, a mother, an aunt, a grandmother, or a dear friend. When you see the outward display of support and compassion by our men and women, know “compassion” is one of our core values that we strive for every day. At the end of the month, some of our deputies will present the badge worn to a family member or friend as a symbol of support.

Sheriff Rand Henderson responds, “This is our way of honoring those who have passed from breast cancer and to show our support to those who are bravely battling breast cancer. We are hopeful this will raise awareness, education and encourage others to take up the fight against cancer. We hope that every cancer fighter knows, we have your 6.”

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Men are affected to a lesser degree.
