UPDATE: MCTXSheriff Makes Arrest for Murder

We would like to make a correction with the arrested individual’s name. We previously posted his name was Robert Schubert; however, Ronald Schubert is the correct name.

Also to clarify, at the time the security guard fired his firearm at the male, he was no longer being assaulted. MCTXSheriff Deputies had the attention of the male and were attempting to gain compliance. Detectives are still actively investigating the identity of the deceased male, who did not have any form of identification with him. This case will be presented to the Grand Jury to determine if a trial in court is appropriate.

MCTXSheriff Makes Arrest for Murder

On July 24, 2020 at 4:48 am, a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a male running across Sawdust Road into a shopping center at the 120 block of Sawdust Road. The male was screaming and throwing his hands in the air as he continued to run, exhibiting an abnormal behavior. The deputy attempted to get the unknown male to stop so a welfare check could be conducted; however, the male did not acknowledge the deputy’s presence. The deputy observed the male drop an unknown item [later identified as a cell phone] but continue to run. As the deputy activated his spotlight to attempt to get the male’s attention, the male continued to run away from the deputy who was following in his patrol car. A licensed, armed, security guard [63 year old male] with Enforce Security Services working the area observed what was occurring and attempted to assist by getting out of his vehicle and stepping in front of the male. The security guard stood with his hand stretched out signaling for the suspicious male to stop while also yelling
stop. The male charged toward the security guard and began assaulting him. The guard was struck numerous times before being knocked to the ground by the male. At that time, the deputy attempted to stop the assault by using his Taser, an electronic stun device, which was ineffective. A second deputy arrived and immediately joined the attempts to gain control of the male who continued to ignore all commands to get on the ground. The second deputy deployed his Taser, which was temporarily effective; however, only briefly as the male rolled away. As deputies continued to give verbal commands to the male the security guard fired his pistol from his position on the ground, striking the male twice. Although deputies rendered life saving measures, the male succumbed to his injuries before EMS arrived to the scene.

This incident is being investigated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers. The identity of the deceased male has not yet been determined at this point, but will be released upon next of kin notification.

The security guard, identified as Robert Schubert was arrested and charged with murder. This is an active investigation and there are no further details available for media release at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved in this situation.
